Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the perfect MCU movie to reintroduce Iron Fist by putting Danny Rand in the martial arts tournament.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the perfect Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to reintroduce Iron Fist. The solo movie for Shang-Chi is one of the many new potential franchises Marvel Studios is launching as part of Phase 4. This brings the introduction of Simu Liu as the Master of Kung Fu and Marvel’s best martial arts superhero to the big screen. As the first MCU movie with an Asian superhero lead, plenty of fans are excited to see what Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will deliver, especially when it comes to the action.
Shang-Chi is Marvel’s best martial artist and the Shang-Chi trailer showed glimpses of the kung fu that the movie includes. The hand-to-hand combat and teases of bigger powers at play, such as with the Ten Rings, raised expectations for the movie. But, it also didn’t take long for comparisons to be made to Netflix’s Iron Fist. The live-action series for Danny Rand is widely regarded as one of Marvel TV’s weakest offerings and largely left general audiences with the impression that Iron Fist isn’t that great of a hero. Although Iron Fist’s portrayal improved as time went on, the damage was already done. It is unknown if Marvel Studios has plans to give Iron Fist a chance in the MCU, but Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the perfect place to do so.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings could be the right spot for the MCU to reintroduce Iron Fist to audiences because of one specific plot point. The trailer for the movie appeared to back up leaks that Shang-Chi features a Mortal Kombat-esque fighting tournament. The footage only shows Shang-Chi and his sister Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) participating in the tournament, but there must be other contestants. This could be how Marvel Studios brings Iron Fist to the MCU, as Danny Rand should be part of a tournament that consists of the universe’s best fighters.
A potential cameo from Iron Fist in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as a tournament contestant would be a clever way for Marvel Studios to reintroduce the character. It is natural for another martial arts superhero to appear, especially for one with as big of a prize as this one might have. The winner of this tournament will get the powerful Ten Rings according to rumors. While these will fall into the possession of the Mandarin for the purposes of Shang-Chi‘s story, Danny Rand could compete to try and prevent this from happening. This could see a pre-Iron Fist version of Danny Rand fight on behalf of K’un-Lun to win the Ten Rings, or even depict a fully powered Iron Fist come up against Shang-Chi. In either case, the MCU can kick-off Iron Fist’s story by showing that he’s also an incredibly skilled martial artist.
Although there are no rumors that Iron Fist will appear in the Phase 4 film, that doesn’t make the possibility and future implications any less fun. Shang-Chi and Iron Fist could meet here to set up the two martial artists teaming up in the future. Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings could still lay the groundwork for Iron Fist’s MCU debut even if he doesn’t appear. If Marvel doesn’t want Iron Fist’s appearance to take away from Shang-Chi’s story, he could be listed as a contestant for the tournament who is ultimately a no-show. That could allow him to join the MCU in a potential sequel or spinoff.
