Catwoman just did a hilarious impression of Batman which helped send a heartfelt message to her new sidekick Shoes. In DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebrations anthology, one story focuses on one of Catwoman’s trainees, who struggles with her own identity due to her connection to a longtime DC villain. Catwoman breaks the ice by mocking Batman.

While Shoes has been a part of Catwoman’s ongoing series, the new story from Ram V, Audrey Mok, Jordie Bellaire, and Tom Napolitano reveals she’s actually the daughter of the villain Cheshire. Following Crisis in Infinite Earths, Cheshire (real name Jade Nguyen) and Roy Harper had a baby together named Lian. However, Cheshire wasn’t really a part of her daughter’s life. Lian was originally killed in Justice League: Cry for Justice after Prometheus set up bombs in each hero’s home cities, with Star City taking the brunt of the damage. With the new Infinite Frontier timeline, a number of heroes have been mysteriously brought back to life, including her father. “Masks” explores Lian struggling to become her own hero.

Shoes is seen taking her mother’s mask out for a spin and attacking a group of gang members who are counting up money. The gangsters are shocked to see the masked hero, calling her “the cat lady,” and “cat woman” before Shoes reveals her superhero name, Cheshire Cat – a combination of Catwoman and Cheshire. Using her training from Catwoman, she takes on the gangsters herself – which starts off great, but she soon finds herself struggling to keep up with them. Thankfully, Selina Kyle shows up and helps take them down. Later, on a Gotham rooftop, Shoes wonders if Catwoman is mad at her after she criticizes her fighting style, telling her “all the speed in the world is of no use if you don’t know what to do with it.” Seeing Cheshire Cat’s mask, Selina recounts a friend of hers who wears a mask and does a hilarious Batman impression.

She says if her friend was there, he would tell her “I wear a mask each night so you won’t have to.” The comment leads to an eruption of laughter between the duo. Selina tells Shoes she shouldn’t be in hurry to find answers about her identity, even if it’s a “cat’s nature to chase.”

Selina’s Batman impression is spot on and made even funnier with the word balloon being given pointy ears like the Caped Crusader. But even with the joke, Catwoman gives Shoes sound advice that not everyone figures out who they are right away. It’s a touching moment featuring a hilarious joke that even Batman himself might smirk at. DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration by DC Comics is in stores now.
