NBC plans to begin airing the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, consisting of ten episodes, after the conclusion of the Summer Olympics.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine will start to air its final season right after the Summer Olympics on NBC. The police procedural comedy, created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur and following the lives of detectives in the 99th precinct in Brooklyn, premiered in 2013 on Fox and became an instant favorite among fans and critics, with the show and star Andy Samberg winning Golden Globe Awards in its first year. The series had such a devoted following that when Fox cancelled it after five seasons, the fans campaigned for a renewal, which NBC sanctioned the day after. The show also stars Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller as part of the ensemble.
Per Deadline, Brooklyn Nine-Nine will get a “coveted” time slot for its season 8 premiere after the Tokyo Summer Olympics in August. The 2020 Olympics was delayed due to the pandemic, similar to the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which last aired its season 7 in April 2020. Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 of the series will consist of ten episodes, which makes it the shortest season for the show, but production has been up and running.
The Summer Olympics is set to open July 23 and close on August 8 and the plan to debut the Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s final season after the Olympics will certainly serve as a huge ratings boost for the show. An official release date has not been announced, possibly due to the caution that the COVID pandemic could potentially affect the upcoming event and NBC may have to rethink their strategy. But the last season of the workplace sitcom has a lot in store, with the show promising to reflect the events of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests as well as the fact that Jake and Amy now have a son. Regardless of exactly when it premieres, it will be exciting to see how Brooklyn Nine-Nine comes to an end when the series returns for its final season.
