Father charged after 2-year-old son accidentally shoots sleeping parents

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ian Carr, 25, of West Bath Monday and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child, days after his 2-year-old son found his loaded, unsecured handgun in his parents’ bedroom and fired a round, injuring himself and his parents last Wednesday.

The arrest was made at the Sagadahoc County Courthouse after Carr agreed to turn himself in, according to a statement from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.

Endangering the welfare of a child is a Class D crime punishable by up to 364 days incarceration and a $2,000 fine, according to the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
