A dedicated Ratchet & Clank fan has created a game, based on the upcoming release Rift Apart, using PlayStation’s game creation platform Dreams.
A dedicated Ratchet & Clank fan has created a game, starring Rivet from the upcoming installment Rift Apart, using Dreams. The newest game in Insomniac Games’ long-running platformer series, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will see the titular protagonists hopping between dimensions and teaming up with a female Lombax named Rivet. Dreams, meanwhile, is a PlayStation-exclusive game creation system developed by Media Molecule and released in February 2020.
As the first original installment in the series since 2013’s Into the Nexus, fans are anticipating Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s release on June 11. Insomniac Games recently revealed that the game officially went gold on May 13th, one month before the game’s release. This achievement, often celebrated in the gaming industry, means that the game is completely finished and ready to be packaged and shipped out to stores for release. In the lead-up to Rift Apart‘s launch, Insomniac continues to reveal new information about the anticipated title. The developer recently revealed new gameplay of the third-person platform shooter, via a trailer starring the interesting new character Rivet. Rivet, a female alternate-dimension version of Ratchet, appears to control similar to the classic protagonist while also bringing her own style and quirks.
Now a fan-made game starring Rivet has been made in Dreams by a skilled creator named Sharfik1995. The game, appropriately titled Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, appears to faithfully emulate the franchise’s platforming and shooting gameplay. The series’ memorable sci-fi cityscapes are also accurately recreated in the fan-made title, and a simple narrative is created which sees Rivet travelling with Clank in order to reunite the robot with his friend Ratchet. A video posted to YouTube channel OpyGam3r demonstrates the quality and accuracy of Sharfik1995’s creation, as well as teasing more features that players can experience in the full Dream.
While Media Molecule’s Dreams allows for the limitless creation of wholly original games, it also allows players to faithfully recreate their favorite video games. Two Dreams users recently created Sonic Adventure: Dreams Edition, a fan-made game starring the iconic and insanely fast blue hedgehog. The 3D Sonic title is considered by some to be even better than the official high-budget games made by series developer SEGA in recent years, demonstrating how fans are sometimes more in touch with a franchise than its creators. More recently an artist at Media Molecule, Martin Nebelong, used the Dreams creation platform to recreate the iconic Castle Dimitrescu from the recently-released horror title Resident Evil Village.
The Ratchet & Clank series has become a staple of PlayStation’s lineup of exclusive titles, and a staple of the video game industry in general. Players have countless ways of paying tribute to the franchise, but Sharfik1995’s Dreams fan game shows a deep dedication for Insomniac’s iconic platform shooter series.
