A new blog post from Call of Duty gives fan more details on the upcoming 80’s Action Heroes event, which stars John Rambo and John McClane.
The upcoming 80s action hero bundles coming to Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War have been detailed by developers. These bundles will see iconic action film heroes, like John Rambo and Die Hard‘s John McClane, joining in on the first-person shooter action. Call of Duty has been a staple of video game action since its first release back in 2003.
The official Call of Duty Twitter account recently released a teaser trailer suggesting that John Rambo, the hardened Vietnam war veteran portrayed by Sylvester Stallone in the iconic Rambo film series, would soon appear in a Call of Duty title. The date May 20 was also teased in the short trailer, suggesting that Rambo would be added as a skin or playable character on that date. A subsequent full-length trailer then confirmed that a new event, entitled 80s Action Heroes, would see John Rambo introduced to Call of Duty Warzone, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty Mobile as a playable Operator. This trailer also teased that John McClane, the charismatic cop portrayed by Bruce Willis in the Die Hard series, would be introduced during the epic event.

A new Call of Duty blog post provides a roadmap for the 80’s Action Heroes event and further details on the upcoming Die Hard and Rambo bundles. The roadmap reveals that the event, which begins on May 20, will see the addition of themed locations to Warzone such as Nakatomi Plaza and a CIA Outpost. New multiplayer maps inspired by the films will be added alongside new game modes. Two new Operator Bundles, available from May 19 to June 18, will allow players to step into the boots of John Rambo or the glass-riddled bare feet of John McClane. The “Rambo” Bundle will include Rambo as a playable Operator alongside finishing moves, weapon blueprints and more. The “Die Hard” bundle will include John McClane alongside a finishing move, weapons blueprints and more. Call of Duty Mobile will receive the Dual Wielding Guns Blazing mode when the event begins on May 20.
In addition to iconic soldiers from the big screen, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features an ever-expanding roster of wholly original new Operators. The latest addition to the first-person shooter’s cast, the intimidating cold-weather killer Knight, was recently made available on April 29. The violent and aggressive Operator features a pet hawk who helps him finish off opponents, and weapons which specialize in dismemberment.
John Rambo and John McClane are two of the most recognizable action heroes in film history, so their inclusion in Call of Duty is a match made in heaven. The 80’s Action Heroes event is more than simple character skins, as players will be able to battle around Die Hard‘s Nakatomi Plaza and participate in new game modes that reflect the event’s cinematic roots. For fans of both first-person shooter combat and 80’s action films, this event should provide plenty of enjoyment when it begins on May 20.
