PARIS — Oxford Hills School District directors voted unanimously Monday evening to hire Monica Henson of New Hampshire as superintendent beginning July 1.
She succeeds Rick Colpitts who will retire June. 30.
Henson comes from New Hampshire School Administrative Unit 44, which serves Northwood, Nottingham and Strafford.
Prior to her current role, she was as a consultant for Greater Atlanta Charter Consultants in Atlanta, Georgia, and a deputy superintendent for Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice, and a superintendent for 11 charter school campuses in Georgia for seven years.
Henson began her career in education in 1985 as a high school English teacher in the Dacula, Georgia, system. She holds a master’s degree in school administration from Seton Hall University in New Jersey and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
“Thank you all so much,” Henson said following the vote. “It’s very humbling to have a unanimous vote.”
In other business, Oxford Elementary School Principal Tiffany Karnes and Paris Elementary School Principal Lori Pacholski gave a presentation on the recent additions of school resource officers to those schools, as well as the north and south campuses of Oxford Hills Middle School in Paris and Oxford, respectively. Officer Michelle Legare works at the two Paris schools and Officer Steve Cronce works at the two Oxford schools.
Following the presentation, directors approved funding the two positions for the next two years with federal CARES Act money.
Director William Rolfe of West Paris asked the board to formulate policies and define specific rules for the officers. He also wanted clarification about how they would go about questioning students in criminal matters.
Colpitts agreed that guidelines are necessary and deferred to Henson, who has had extensive experience working with school resource officers.
The board also voted to hire Jessica McGreevy as the assistant principal at Oxford Hills Middle School, succeeding Tara Pelletier, who recently accepted the same position at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.
McGreevy is assistant principal and athletic director at Dirigo High School in Dixfield. She has worked for SAD 17 as a math teacher at the middle school.
