10 Ways The Disney+ Lando Series Could Connect To The Original Trilogy

One of the many Star Wars streaming series announced by Lucasfilm at Disney’s Investor Day event was Lando, an event series from Dear White People’s Justin Simien that will revolve around Lando Calrissian.

No specifics have been announced yet—it’s not even clear if the show will star Billy Dee Williams as an older Lando or Donald Glover as a younger Lando—but it’s possible that the series will cover Lando’s entire life story. If Lando does end up being a sort of biopic of its title character, then it could connect to the beloved original trilogy in a few crucial ways.

10 Han Solo

Harrison Ford as Han Solo

The most obvious way that Lando’s series could connect to the original trilogy is through the connection that brought him into the original trilogy in the first place: his on-and-off friendship with the legendary Han Solo.

Whether he’s played by Solo’s Alden Ehrenreich or a digitally de-aged Harrison Ford, it would be a delight to see Han in Lando’s spin-off, especially if Simien uses the extended runtime to deepen their dynamic.

9 Cloud City

When we first meet Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back, he’s the newly appointed administrator of the gas mines on Cloud City. Formerly, he was a gambler and a con man and a smuggler, so “Baron Administrator” was a radical change of job title.

This new spin-off series can explore how Lando went from the con artist seen in Solo to the successful gas mine administrator seen in The Empire Strikes Back, all under the rule of the Empire.

8 Darth Vader

Since Darth Vader is slated to appear in Obi-Wan’s spin-off series and will probably also appear in Cassian Andor’s spin-off series, it’s unlikely that he’ll also show up in Lando’s spin-off series.

Then again, Vader is arguably the most iconic character in the Star Wars canon, so Disney might just keep milking him for fan service. And his relationship with Lando is unique. Initially, they’re not enemies, they’re business associates, but Lando quickly learns that there’s no such thing as two-way loyalty with Vader.

7 The Millennium Falcon

Before the Millennium Falcon was captained by Han Solo, it was captained by Lando Calrissian. Solo: A Star Wars Story depicted Lando losing the Falcon to Han in a crooked game of Sabacc, but he had plenty of adventures with the iconic freighter before that.

If the Lando series explores the character’s intergalactic exploits as a young man back when he was still in possession of the Falcon, then the old bucket of bolts could feature heavily.

6 Chewbacca

While Han was frozen in carbonite and hanging on Jabba’s wall, Lando took his place as the captain of the Millennium Falcon and, more importantly, Chewie’s best friend.

After the events of the original trilogy, Chewie was almost as close with Lando as Han—although no one could replace his Corellian B.F.F. They flew into the Battle of Exegol together in The Rise of Skywalker, and, depending on when Lando’s spin-off takes place, Joonas Suotamo could reprise his role as Chewbacca.

5 The Rebellion

Before Han sought refuge on Bespin, Lando didn’t have a stake in the Galactic Civil War. In fact, he was more than willing to work with the Empire. However, after realizing the Imperial forces are clearly the bad guys, Lando ditched his job on Cloud City and joined the Rebel Alliance.

After going undercover in Jabba the Hutt’s palace to liberate Han, Lando is promoted to the rank of general. He went on to become a major figure in the Rebellion, so the organization may feature prominently in his spin-off series.

4 Boba Fett

Boba Fett drove a wedge between Lando and Darth Vader when he questioned the Sith Lord’s alterations to their deal in The Empire Strikes Back. During the battle on Jabba’s barge in Return of the Jedi, Lando recognizes Fett instantly, suggesting a history between the two beyond Han’s carbonite freezing.

With Temuera Morrison playing Boba to critical acclaim in the second season of The Mandalorian, leading into his own spin-off series, the character could easily make an appearance in Lando.

3 Nien Nunb

When Lando takes the Falcon to infiltrate the second Death Star and blow up its core in the final battle of Return of the Jedi, his co-pilot is Nien Nunb. He appeared in every single entry in the sequel trilogy, so Disney is clearly interested in keeping this character around. He could show up in Lando.

2 The Mining Guild

As the Baron Administrator of Cloud City’s gas mines, Lando worked hard to ensure that the mines would be profitable without ruffling any feathers in the Empire or the Mining Guild. While Star Wars fans know just about everything there is to know about the Empire, Lando’s spin-off can dig into the unscrupulous practices of the Mining Guild.

1 Luke Skywalker

:uke Skywalker's reveal in the final episode of The Mandalorian season two

In The Rise of Skywalker, when Rey and co. find Lando hiding out on Pasaana, he explains that he and Luke came out there post-Return of the Jedi to see if they could track down Ochi’s blade, but he gave up when the trail went cold.

If Lando’s spin-off explores this storyline, then it could see the return of the digitally de-aged Luke Skywalker that made Star Wars fans lose their minds in the season two finale of The Mandalorian.
