John D. Goodwin

BEAUFORT, N.C. – John D. Goodwin, 76, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2021 in Beaufort, N.C. He was born on Jan. 16, 1945 in Norwood, Mass. to Charles and Alice (Bain) Goodwin.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of honor and respect with a devotion to his family and his country. Most notably, he was a Vietnam Veteran, serving his country during three tours of duty in the Vietnam Conflict . He retired from the Marine Corp. as a Master Sergeant, after serving 23 years.

He enjoyed traveling with family and friends. His favorite destination was the Island of Aruba. He was a dedicated Bruins fan from childhood, enjoyed fishing, golf, and spending time with family. After retirement from the State of Maine, he busied himself with projects around the house. He was a funny man, always laughing and a true jokester.

John was predeceased by his parents; his beloved dog Buddy; and many family and life-long friends. He is survived by his wife and best friend Karen Goodwin, with whom he shared 32 years of love and companionship; his sister Judy Buckley and her husband Robert along with three nephews; three daughters, Sheila Griffin and her husband Eddie, Alison (Goodwin) Stimson, and Sarah (Elie) Bennett, three sons, Ryan Goodwin and his wife Heather, James Goodwin, and Scott Elie; ten grandchildren, Billy, Jessy, Christopher, Henry, Arian, Jaydon, Karah, Ian, Sofia, Liam; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Hunter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m. with the United States Marine Corp presenting military honors at 6 p.m.
